The ability to connect deeply to your customers is highly
important. Your goods and services you provide are commodities that are
available at the open market to be offered by your competitors. Why then must
prospects chose you and then become your lifelong customer?
A customer is a human being with a felt need, a feeling, an
emotion and all these needs some form of expression and validation. Imagine a
king coming into your store and then you or your attendant just said; “what do
you want to buy, we have this and that at a cheap price”. Even though that his not is palace he is used
to being respected and regarded with respect and attention that is beyond the
norm.
Now let’s leave the king and go to a servant who walks into
the same store on a hot afternoon sweating profusely and the attendant this
time says: Good afternoon Sir, you are welcome to the ‘name of the store’ and
then stops. The servant looks to himself with a renewed self confidence and
then like a King orders for items worthy of a royal even if that are his last
dime.
The next time the so called servant needs an item he
remembers this store and then brings his spouse or friends to a place where he
is treated like a king so they can take a cue on how to treat him. However, the
king who entered the store and was treated like a normal person will not bring
his friends or subjects to that store so they won’t treat him like a normal
person afterwards even if he himself returns there. People will never forget
who made them feel better about themselves and an organization that does so
will never lack for customers.
